586 more days of this bullshit?

Thank your luckies you're not subject to the Australian electoral cycle. Ours is only three years. We have two year, 364 day campaign and trust me, the bullshit here isn't any different to yours there.

Canadian election laws are (or were, I think this may have changed last year) awesome in this respect – elections are called, not scheduled, and they generally happen six weeks later. So, the most we get is about eight weeks of campaigning when it’s /really/ obvious an election’s around the corner.

We need these long presidential campaigns. Otherwise consultants would have to get real job or go on wellfair. None of us would want them to face those options.

It's not like we even get value for money out of a 2-year campaign. We have time enough to allow for finding out every candidate's position on every issue, of exploring policy in detail and determining just exactly what it is that distinguishes one from the next. But instead, we get the whole horse race, "who's up who's down" while the media waits for somebody to say "fuck" or get shot, in PJ O'Rourke's memorable phrase.

That is, assuming they can tear themselves away from the LA coke whore parade long enough to notice there's an election next year...
This is truly disgusting and not very beneficial. I hate that it has started so much earlier than before. You begin to tire of the person you like and despise the others.

Well said, sir.
Well to be honest.... they don't have anything to talk about with the "War", so they have to talk about something, right.

Agreed. It really does a lot to discourage me from being interested in politics, even at a general knowledge level. *sigh* (But I still try to keep informed, despite all the campaigning.)
